Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower has received a mysterious and unexpected update, featuring festive lights and decorations. This unannounced addition has captivated players, sparking speculation about its origins.
Destiny 1, while still accessible, largely ceded the spotlight to its sequel, Destiny 2, in 2017. Despite this, Bungie continues to integrate legacy content from Destiny 1 into Destiny 2, including beloved raids and exotic weapons. However, this recent Tower update is entirely unexpected.
On January 5th, players began reporting unusual decorations within the Tower social space. Ghost-shaped lights, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, adorned the area. However, unlike previous events, there was no snow, and the banners differed. Crucially, no new quests or event notifications accompanied the decorations.
A Resurfaced Scrapped Event?
The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed towards a cancelled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event closely resemble the current Tower decorations, suggesting a possible connection. It's theorized that a placeholder future date for removal might have been accidentally triggered.
As of this writing, Bungie has yet to comment on the unexpected update. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. Therefore, while not an official event, players are encouraged to enjoy this unexpected festive surprise in Destiny 1's Tower before it's potentially removed.
