Beginner's Guide for Dead Sails
Screenshot by The Escapist. New to Dead Sails? Don't fret. This game, akin to its predecessor Dead Rails, is straightforward – you captain a ship aiming to sail 10,000 meters between towns, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100k meters. The key? Keep sailing, ensure you don't run out of fuel, and stay alive. Sounds simple, but it's a challenge!
Before You Set Sail
The in-game lobby is your pre-round prep zone, albeit a costly one. Starting with 15 Dabloons, the game's currency, you might be tempted to spend on boats or items like bandages and weapons. However, you'll find plenty of these in-game, so conserve your Dabloons for more essential uses.
How To Choose A Class
Screenshot by The Escapist. We recommend investing your 15 Dabloons in a class. These perks are obtained through a loot box system, costing 3 Dabloons each. You might get lucky and snag a favorite like Pirate or Gunslinger on your first go. Check out our Dead Sails Class Tierlist for a detailed breakdown of every class available.
What To Do In Towns
Screenshot by The Escapist. Each round begins in a town where your ship docks, serving as your safe haven every 10,000 meters. Utilize town amenities to your advantage:
Trading Hut: Sell collected items. General Store: Stock up on journey essentials. Hospital: Heal up. Gun Shop: Buy guns and ammo. Sheriff’s: Earn bounties from pirate and creature corpses.
Starting with a blunt weapon, there's no rush to buy firearms. Instead, prioritize purchasing coal – your ship's lifeline. Spend all your money on coal to ensure you keep moving forward.
Dead Sails Tips & Tricks
The gameplay may seem simple, but navigating past various structures and fending off undead creatures adds complexity. Here's what you need to know to excel.
Tips For Never Running Out Of Fuel
Screenshot by The Escapist. Coal is your ship's fuel, with each piece adding 20% more to your tank. While you could theoretically complete the game by buying 5 coal pieces at every town, there are more engaging ways to keep your ship fueled. Collect items marked "fuel" for a 5% boost, and don't forget to utilize the corpses of defeated undead for additional fuel.
How To Survive The Night
Screenshot by The Escapist. Nighttime in Dead Sails is significantly tougher, with reduced visibility increasing the danger from attackers. Ideally, spend the night in town for safety. If that's not possible, buy Barbed Wire to mount on your ship, deterring mobs. Without Barbed Wire, halt your journey and actively fend off any approaching creatures.
Which Weapon To Choose
Screenshot by The Escapist. Weapon choice is personal, but as you encounter stronger enemies, you'll need more powerful weapons. A shotgun is highly recommended for its substantial damage, perfect for unexpected encounters. Early on, a revolver can be a good starter firearm, often found in buildings.
Best Items To Collect
Screenshot by The Escapist. Everything you collect can be sold, but with a limited inventory of 10 items, choose wisely:
Moyai and Bars: Valuable in diamond, gold, and silver, these are top earners. Healing Packs: Keep these for emergencies, though they can be sold. Crosses: Sell for 35 cash or use against undead. Weapons: Use or sell as needed. Robot Head: Found in houses and banks, sells for 45 cash. Holy Water: Found in churches, sells for 25 cash. Gold Llama: Rare and valuable, selling at 150 cash.
Remember, items on your boat can fall off if not welded; use the weld button (Z on the keyboard) to secure them.
