David Harbour Eyed for Kane & Lynch Film

A big-screen adaptation of the original Kane & Lynch game, developed by IO Interactive—the studio behind the Hitman series—was a long-discussed project dating back to 2007. Despite various Hollywood stars being attached over the years, the film never materialized.

This week, Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto shared on social media that he had crafted a treatment for the Kane & Lynch movie featuring David Harbour, known for his role as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things or as Red Guardian in Thunderbolts. "Never seen a script, but couple years ago when that property was still kinda shit hot," Tjahjanto wrote. "I wrote a short treatment with James Badge Dale and David Harbour in mind. Never gotten anywhere."

While this treatment—one of many never-to-be-realized concepts—remains unproduced, it adds to the lengthy list of failed attempts to bring the controversial duo to life on the big screen. For years, Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were linked to the project, though neither ultimately committed due to multiple script rewrites. Later, Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel were rumored to star, but this iteration also fell through.

Ultimately, following the lukewarm reception of Kane & Lynch: Dog Days (2010), IO Interactive distanced themselves from the series and refocused their efforts on Hitman. As Tjahjanto’s treatment remains shelved, the Kane & Lynch movie seems destined to stay firmly in development hell.
