Cyberpunk 2077 to Use 25% of Switch 2's Storage

By AaliyahMay 03,2025

CD Projekt Red has announced that the install size for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a hefty 64GB. This is notably smaller than the 100-110GB required on Xbox and PS5, but on the Switch 2, it represents a significant 25% of the console's 256GB internal storage.

Set to launch simultaneously with the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available in two formats: a physical 64GB game card and a digital download from the Nintendo eShop. Unlike some other new Switch 2 game cards that contain only a download key, Cyberpunk 2077 will come with the full game on the card.

This revelation raises concerns about how quickly the Switch 2's internal storage might fill up. While the 256GB storage is a substantial upgrade from the original Switch's 32GB, the increasing size of games on the new console suggests that storage could become an issue. For instance, Cyberpunk 2077 is 64GB, while Tears of the Kingdom on the original Switch was only 16GB. Other upcoming titles, such as the $80 Mario Kart World, are expected to have similarly large file sizes.

The solution to this storage dilemma is expandable storage. Both the PS5 and Xbox support this, and the Switch has always allowed for it. However, the Switch 2 will only be compatible with microSD Express cards, a departure from the standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards used by the original Switch. This means that existing microSD cards won't work, and gamers will need to purchase the newer, more expensive microSD Express cards.

IGN's deals team has identified the best prices on Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, ranging from 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), to 1TB ($199.99) options from SanDisk and Lexar. However, some of these options are already in high demand and may be temporarily out of stock on Amazon.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to release branded microSD Express cards, which might be pricier than their third-party counterparts. As the Switch 2 drives demand, more manufacturers may enter the microSD Express market, potentially affecting prices.
