According to a recent report from Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film Coyote vs. Acme might finally make it to the big screen. Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company Ketchup Entertainment is currently in deep negotiations to acquire the movie. Although the deal is not yet finalized, a successful negotiation could lead to a theatrical release in 2026.
Coyote vs. Acme was first announced in 2022 and is based on a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring stars Will Forte and John Cena, had completed filming and was set for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, it was unexpectedly shelved, prompting a dedicated campaign to save the film.
Ketchup Entertainment has a history of rescuing films from cancellation. They recently saved another Warner Bros. project, *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie*, from a similar fate. This film became the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release in the US, earning praise from IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. They also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 biopic Ferrari.
