In the midst of the usual news frenzy surrounding tariffs and the pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2, we have a delightful diversion for your Friday: IGN had the chance to dive into Mario Kart World at a Nintendo event in New York this week, and they've confirmed a quirky detail that's got fans buzzing—the new Moo Moo Meadows Cow character can indeed indulge in a variety of foods, including burgers and steak.
For those out of the loop, let's catch you up. Mario Kart World was recently announced, introducing the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable racer. This has sent the internet into a frenzy, spawning countless memes and fanart celebrating this once background character's rise to stardom.
However, as the news of Cow's inclusion spread, fans noticed a curious detail from the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer: Mario was seen eating a burger. Given that burgers are typically made of beef, and considering Cow's origins, a question arose—could Cow herself eat beef? The gaming community was eager to find out.
Imagine if the cow gets a transformation costume.

At the Nintendo preview event, the mystery was solved. The food items seen in the trailer are available at Yoshi's diner locations throughout the Mario Kart World courses. These function similarly to drive-thrus, where racers can grab a bag of take-out, much like picking up an item from an item box. The menu boasts a variety of options, from burgers and steak kebabs to pizza and donuts.
And yes, Cow can enjoy them all. IGN even shared a tweet confirming that Cow can indeed eat steak in Mario Kart World.

During their session, IGN also observed Cow consuming other items, including burgers. It's still unclear what effect, if any, these foods have on Cow. Other racers undergo costume changes upon consumption, but Cow seems unaffected. Is she simply enjoying the taste, or is there a hidden power-up linked to her dietary choices that Nintendo has yet to reveal? Could these be veggie burgers or plant-based meat alternatives?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification but has not received a response yet. It's likely due to their busy schedule at the New York event, and not because the question might seem a bit out there. Right?
In the meantime, don't miss out on IGN's preview of Mario Kart World, which includes a special appearance by our new favorite racer, Cow.
