Stardew Valley developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has revealed that his next project, Haunted Chocolatier, will be more expansive than the already vast Stardew Valley.
In what way will it be larger? Barone kept details sparse, stating only that "the world of Haunted Chocolatier is larger than Stardew Valley." For context, How Long to Beat? reports Stardew Valley’s main story takes over 50 hours, with completionist runs averaging 168 hours.
This brief announcement sparked enthusiasm among fans, with one declaring: “ConcernedApe, please keep teasing but take your time! We’re thrilled and can’t wait, but no rush—we adore you!”
Last month, Barone shared that he wants to move beyond being known solely as the Stardew Valley creator, which is why he’s focused on Haunted Chocolatier. A release date remains distant, as Barone noted there’s “still much work to do” to ensure it surpasses Stardew Valley’s quality.
Barone also hinted at the possibility of a Stardew Valley 2 in the future. However, he noted that expanding Stardew Valley with updates is far simpler than building a new game from scratch.
“All the core systems are already in place for Stardew Valley. That’s the tedious part. Now, updates are fun—adding things like green rain or whimsical ideas,” he explained.
Haunted Chocolatier was first unveiled in 2021. Like Stardew Valley, it’s a top-down pixel-art simulation game, carrying the same charming essence as Barone’s earlier work.
