By OliviaMay 06,2025

The iconic role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC, a remarkable 25 years following its initial debut. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by Europe in 2001, the game saw a PC release in Europe and Japan in 2003. This classic title centers around Ryu, a protagonist with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, who unites with fellow warriors on a quest to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions.

As part of its ongoing Preservation Program, GOG has revitalized Breath of Fire IV for today's PC gamers. This DRM-free release is fully optimized for modern systems, boasting compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. The game now features both English and Japanese localizations, enhanced graphics courtesy of an upgraded DirectX renderer, and new display options including Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. Moreover, the audio engine has been improved, bringing back missing environmental sounds and offering new configuration options for an enriched gaming experience.
