Intriguingly, the Reddit post claims the leak originated from a website known for hosting hentai content. Ubisoft has been contacted by IGN for comment. While the original source has removed the gallery, archived versions are circulating on other file-sharing platforms.

The leak comes shortly before Assassin's Creed Shadows' revised launch date of March 20, 2025, following a delay from its initial 2024 release. IGN recently spoke with game director Charles Benoit, who attributed the delay to polishing and minor gameplay adjustments. He highlighted improvements to the parkour system, specifically addressing challenges posed by the complex architecture of Feudal Japan. Benoit stated that the unique design of Japanese roofs presented a significant hurdle, requiring custom code and animations to maintain fluidity in the parkour mechanics.
