Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches for two titles in the series to resolve these issues, although some other Ubisoft games might still be affected.

Windows frequently rolls out updates, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 introduced several enhancements, such as Wi-Fi 7 support, advanced energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC features. However, following the rollout of this update, some gamers reported that certain games, including those from the Assassin's Creed series, either failed to start or exhibited unexpected behavior. The latest fix aims to rectify these issues for two of Ubisoft's popular titles.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have both been updated to address the problems triggered by the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download via Steam, allowing the games to launch without issues. Players should ensure they have sufficient storage space, as the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

It remains unclear what specific aspect of the Windows update caused these disruptions in Ubisoft's games. While the community appreciates the fixes for Origins and Valhalla, there are ongoing complaints about other games that have yet to receive a patch. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, for example, may still become unresponsive or fail to function correctly. Ubisoft's previous hotfixes have reportedly mitigated the most severe issues with Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but some performance hiccups may persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 24H2 until a fix for their game is available.

Although solutions are now being implemented, it's disappointing that these problems arose in the first place. Gamers first noticed issues with various titles when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months ago, yet the problem persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning as Microsoft has been pushing for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. Fortunately, most games have not experienced significant issues following the update.
