Ubisoft elaborates on Gennojo's character, portraying him as a "charming, reckless, and deeply conflicted figure, driven by guilt to dismantle a corrupt system." Gennojo is characterized as a flirtatious rogue and a trickster, navigating life with a blend of wit, deceit, and swagger. His motivation stems from a profound desire to overthrow a corrupt system, risking his life in the process.
