Retro handheld console manufacturer Anbernic has announced the suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As highlighted by The Verge, Anbernic advises customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which are not subject to import duties, ensuring a hassle-free purchase. Orders requiring shipment from China will no longer be processed.
Anbernic is renowned for its affordable Game Boy-like devices, typically shipped directly from China upon release, with additional stock held in U.S. warehouses. Customers can select their preferred shipping location on Anbernic's website, but not all products are available from the U.S. This means that popular models such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H will be unavailable to American customers.
The Trump administration's imposition of tariffs up to 145% on Chinese imports, with potential increases to 245% on items like electric vehicles, has put pressure on companies. These costs are often passed on to consumers, impacting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.
Anbernic is actively seeking a resolution for customers affected by custom fees during this period of transition.
In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct. Originally, pre-orders for the U.S. were slated for early April but have been delayed to April 24 due to tariff uncertainties in the U.S. and Canada. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 console and its games, although prices for most Switch 2 accessories have been increased.
