Mahjong School: Master Japanese Riichi Mahjong
Mahjong School is your dedicated platform for mastering the game. We specialize in teaching the Japanese style of Mahjong, which is nearly identical to the European (Riichi) and US styles. While it differs somewhat from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese styles, learning Japanese Mahjong first makes transitioning to other styles straightforward.
Mahjong School offers three primary methods to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.
1 The Mahjong Calculator.
Click to add tiles to your hand or declare TING, PUNG, CHOW, or CHI to form a winning hand. You can also configure various conditions like DORA and self-draw. Once set, the calculator will compute the hand's Fu and points, providing detailed descriptions including the hand's name.
2 The Simple Tutorial.
This tutorial lists every Han value, complete with example hands and descriptions.
3 A Practice Mode.
Play Mahjong directly against an AI opponent. The AI is designed for beginners, offering a friendly challenge for new learners. Practice is the most effective way to master Mahjong.
