Little Bee

Get ready for an exciting spelling adventure with the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston's (KCNK) Little Bee Spelling App, proudly sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU). Designed for kids aged 4 to 9, this app offers a fun and educational way to master spelling with over 150 words spread across three engaging modes.

The KCNK Little Bee Game is perfect for on-the-go learning, as it doesn't require an internet connection. With two learning modes and a competition mode, each featuring 10 levels, the app ensures a progressive challenge as words get longer. Each level contains 15 or more words, and the same set of words is used across all modes.

In the Settings, students can personalize their experience by entering their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose from Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.

Learning Mode 1:

In this mode, students learn to spell by tapping each letter of a word from left to right. The app audibly announces each letter, helping children to learn by repetition. If a mistake is made, it can be easily corrected by tapping on the error. To hear the word again, students can tap the little bee icon at the top left of the screen. To progress, students must spell each word correctly before moving to the next, and complete all words to finish a level. Levels can be revisited at any time, but earlier levels must be completed before advancing.

Learning Mode 2:

Here, students are presented with jumbled letters and must correctly spell the word called out. Mistakes can be undone by tapping on them, and the word can be replayed by tapping the little bee icon. As in Learning Mode 1, correct spelling of each word is required to move forward, and all words must be spelled correctly to complete a level. Levels can be repeated, and earlier levels must be finished before starting later ones.

Competition Mode:

This mode adds an extra challenge with jumbled letters and additional distractors. Students are timed as they spell 10 randomly selected words from the level's pool. The goal is to complete each level as quickly as possible, with times added to the total for the level. The leaderboard on the main page displays the time spent on each level, encouraging friendly competition. Students can reset the game from the Settings page and should wait for a letter to finish being called before selecting the next. Both students and parents are encouraged to capture screenshots of the leaderboard to share with teachers.
