Preparing Children for Hospital Visits: The "HC And" App
Developed in collaboration with the Oncology Department at Odense University Hospital, hospitalized children, their families, and 10:30 Visual Communication, "HC And - When mother or father has cancer" is a patient information resource designed for children aged 4-7. Its goal is to ease anxiety and provide understandable explanations of hospital procedures and terminology.
This app serves as an introduction to a broader cancer patient education program, using a child-friendly approach. Information is presented via narration in a child's voice and engaging animation, ideal for interactive learning on tablets, mobile phones, or touchscreens.
The app's design recognizes that children in this age group learn best through play and concrete examples. To prevent information overload, "HC And" is structured in short, easily digestible segments, perfect for starting points.
The app features seven short stories addressing common concerns about cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Healthcare professionals can use this resource as a valuable educational tool to foster a shared understanding with young patients and their families.
