Application Description

Boerenbridge, also known as Chinese Pooping in Flanders, is a popular card game where the objective is to accurately predict and achieve the number of strokes (or tricks) in each round. Here's a detailed guide on how to keep track of points in this engaging game.

Game Setup and Rules

  • Number of Players: The game can be played with 3 to 6 players.
  • Deck: A standard 52-card deck is used.
  • Dealing Cards: The number of cards dealt to each player increases by one each round, starting from one card in the first round up to a maximum based on the number of players. For example, with five players, the maximum number of cards per player is 10. After reaching the maximum, the number of cards dealt decreases back to one card per player in the final round.

Gameplay and Bidding

  • Bidding: Each player, starting from the left of the dealer, predicts the number of strokes they expect to win. The highest bidder decides the trump suit for the round.
  • Dealer's Constraint: The dealer, who bids last, cannot choose a number of strokes that would make the total number of predicted strokes equal to the number of cards dealt in that round. For example, if 7 cards are dealt, and the first three players bid 0, 3, and 2 strokes respectively, the dealer cannot bid 2 strokes because 0 + 3 + 2 + 2 would equal 7.

Scoring

  • Points for Accurate Predictions: Players score points based on how accurately they predict their strokes. If a player correctly predicts the number of strokes they win, they earn points equal to the number of strokes they predicted. For instance, if a player predicts 3 strokes and wins exactly 3 strokes, they earn 3 points.
  • Penalty for Inaccurate Predictions: If a player's prediction is incorrect, they lose points equal to the number of strokes they predicted. For example, if a player predicts 3 strokes but wins only 2, they lose 3 points.
  • End of Game: The game continues through all rounds until the final round with one card per player. The player with the highest total points at the end of the game wins.

Example Scoring Scenario

Let's consider a game with four players and follow the scoring through a few rounds:

  • Round 1 (1 card per player):

    • Player A predicts 1 stroke, wins 1 stroke: +1 point
    • Player B predicts 0 strokes, wins 0 strokes: +0 points
    • Player C predicts 1 stroke, wins 0 strokes: -1 point
    • Player D predicts 0 strokes, wins 1 stroke: -0 points
  • Round 2 (2 cards per player):

    • Player A predicts 2 strokes, wins 1 stroke: -2 points
    • Player B predicts 1 stroke, wins 2 strokes: -1 point
    • Player C predicts 0 strokes, wins 0 strokes: +0 points
    • Player D predicts 1 stroke, wins 1 stroke: +1 point
  • Total Points After Round 2:

    • Player A: 1 - 2 = -1 point
    • Player B: 0 - 1 = -1 point
    • Player C: -1 + 0 = -1 point
    • Player D: 0 + 1 = +1 point

The game continues similarly through all rounds, with players adjusting their strategies based on the outcomes of previous rounds.
