Application Description
A strategic board game originating from West Africa
Known by various names such as Awele, Ayo, or Oware, Awale belongs to the Mancala family of games and is played by two participants. It shares similarities with East African games like Omweso, Bao, or Igisoro.
The game of Awale consists of eight holes per player and is played with 64 seeds.
A player's territory refers to the row of holes positioned closest to them.
The primary objective is to capture all or some of the opponent's seeds, thereby preventing them from making further moves.
Other notable games within the Mancala family include Ayo, Kisoro, and Omweso.
Historical evidence suggests that Mancala games were first developed in Ethiopia during the era of the Kingdom of Aksum.
