What Are Split APKs?

Back in mid-2018, Google I/O introduced the game-changing App Bundles format. To grasp the concept better, we recommend checking out this detailed AndroidPolice post. In short, before App Bundles, developers either packaged everything into a single "fat" APK or managed multiple APK variants manually. With App Bundles, Google handles the variants, splitting the app into multiple parts, or "split APKs." For instance, a release might now come as several files: base.apk, arm64.split.apk, 320dpi.split.apk, en-us.lang.split.apk, and es-es.lang.split.apk. While you can't install these splits by just tapping them, APKMirror Installer steps in to help you manage and install them seamlessly.

What About .apkm Files?

As more apps adopt the split APK format, APKMirror has introduced .apkm files to ensure easy and safe sideloading. Each .apkm file contains a base APK along with various split APKs. After installing APKMirror Installer, you can tap on the .apkm file or use the app to locate it. You'll get a clear view of what's inside and can choose which splits to install, helping you save space on your device.

Issues and Bugs

Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco MIUI users might face issues due to modifications in MIUI affecting the part of Android that APKMirror Installer uses for split APK installations.
