Seka – A Card Game

Seka, also known by various names such as Sikka, Sichka, Strekoza, Trinka, Trynka, Drynka, Tri List, Dva List, and others, is an engaging card game with its unique charm.

Features:

  • The game can be played with 2 to 10 players.
  • A full deck of 52 cards is used. For games with up to 4 players, only 20 cards are used (from Tens to Aces).
  • For 5 to 10 players, 36 cards are used (from Sixes to Aces).
  • The game includes a Joker, which can be designated as any card (usually a Six) of any suit by agreement.

Card Values:

  • Joker and Ace — 11 points each
  • King to Ten — 10 points each
  • Lower cards are valued at their face value.

Winning:

  • The player with the highest total points wins.

Game Rules:

  • The dealer is determined by a draw. Players contribute a pre-agreed amount of money to the pot.
  • The dealer then deals three cards to each player, after which players decide whether to discard or play their cards.
  • Points are counted for cards of the same suit — called a "hlyust" (e.g., a Seven and a Jack of Clubs give 17 points).
  • If no hlyust is formed, the player only scores points from their highest card.
  • If a player holds three cards of the same rank (known as a "trikon" or "trynka"), their total always exceeds any hlyust (but not a higher trikon).
  • Bidding follows. The player to the right of the dealer places the first bet.
  • Subsequent players can fold, call, or raise the bet.
  • Once the round is complete, the first player decides whether to continue bidding or reveal the cards.
  • The pot goes to the player with the highest total points.
  • If multiple players have the same total points, they can either split the pot or initiate a new round called a "svara".
  • In a "svara", the pot remains the same, with an additional contribution of 1/N (where N is the previous pot's total).
  • Other players may also contribute and join the new round.
  • Bluffing is allowed, where a player raises the bet despite having fewer points. If successful, the bluffer wins the pot without revealing their cards.
  • The player next to the dealer can place an additional bet of any size called a "temnaya" (dark bet) without looking at their cards. Subsequent players must then double the "temnaya" to continue playing.
